Q. Who is Miss Ditty? A. Miss Ditty is a real person and the inspiration behind this site. She is a retired elementary school teacher from Pennsylvania. Click here to read more about Miss Ditty. Back to top Q. How detailed should I get when I submit a letter? A. Your Privacy, as well as the privacy of the letter recipient, is very important to us. It is up to you to decide how much and what kind of information you want to post. Please understand that your letter will be posted on a public website. You may not want to include specific information such as address, phone number, etc. Please review our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and Disclaimer for more detailed information. Back to top Q. What happens to my letter when I submit it? A. Once you click the submit button, your letter will be immediately posted on the site. You will be shown a page with a direct link to your letter on the site. Back to top Q. How can I find my letter on DearMissDitty.com? A. There are a lot of different ways to do this. First and easiest, when you submit your letter, you will be shown a page that gives you a direct link to your letter. If you are the recipient of a thank you letter, an e-mail message will be sent to you with a direct link to your letter on the site. Another option is to use the search box at the top of each webpage. You can also find your letter by clicking on the appropriate category under the Read Letters section. Back to top Q. How will information I submit be used? A. Your privacy is important to us. We do not share, disclose or sell your personal information to any third parties. Please read our Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, and Terms of Use for complete details. Back to top Q. What is the purpose of the Share Your Story section? A. The Share Your Story section is intended to give you the opportunity to share more details and the background of your story. For example, what did it mean to you to write or receive a letter? How were you affected by this experience? This information may be used as a feature story in the monthly newsletter or as part of a book. Back to top Q. Can I post a letter if I don’t know the recipient’s name? A. Yes, absolutely. You may leave this section blank or type in a descriptor (such as Anonymous, A Good Samaritan, NYC Firefighters, U.S. Soldiers, etc.). The letter will still be posted on the site. Back to top Q. What if I don’t know the recipient’s e-mail address? A. No problem. We understand that you may be thanking someone you lost touch with, someone who doesn’t have e-mail, or someone who has passed away. Just leave the e-mail address blank when you fill out the Write A Letter form. The letter will still be posted to the site and you will be shown a page with a direct link to the letter. You also have the option of printing the letter yourself and mailing it to the recipient if you know their mailing address. Back to top Q. Can I post if the recipient is deceased? A. Yes. We strongly believe that it’s never too late to express gratitude to someone who had a positive impact on your life. Unfortunately, you don’t always realize the impact others had on you until after they are gone. An “In Memory” category is provided, or you may select the category of your choice. Back to top Q. How do I decide which category to choose? A. We understand that you may have difficulty deciding on a single category. Do you put a relative who has done something heroic in the “Love, Family & Friends” category or the “Heroes” category? The bottom line is, you should select the category which you feel best represents your letter. Regardless of which category you choose, your letter of gratitude will be posted on the site and the recipient will be publicly recognized. Back to top Q. Can I post a letter anonymously? A. Yes, on the Write A Letter Form under your name, you can put “Anonymous” or any other descriptor such as “A Friend”. You must include a valid e-mail address on the form before submitting a letter to the site. Whatever you use as your name is what will be posted with your letter on the site. Your e-mail address WILL NOT BE posted. Back to top Q. What if I made a mistake – can I edit my letter? A. Sure. Just send us an e-mail message at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will make whatever corrections you request. In order to verify your identity, you must send your request from the same e-mail address you used to post the original letter.
